BILINGUAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING GLOSSARY
A reference guide defining medium voltage and low voltage engineering nomenclature in Indonesian and English, aligned with PUIL 2011, SPLN, and IEC standards.
20 kV Medium Voltage Switchgear Cubicle
Medium voltage 20 kV switchgear cubicle assembly that isolates, protects, and routes power from PLN utility grids or captive generators to step-down distribution transformers. Built with Incoming, Outgoing, Metering, LBS (Load Break Switch), and VCB (Vacuum Circuit Breaker) compartments with safety interlocks.
Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel (LVMDP)
Main low voltage (380/400 V) secondary distribution switchboard receiving power from distribution transformers or standby generators and feeding motor control centers (MCC) and sub-distribution boards. Features high-capacity ACB/MCCB breakers and 99.9% pure Cu busbars.
Low Voltage Main Switchboard (PUTR)
Indonesian statutory and utility engineering nomenclature (PUIL & SPLN) equivalent to the LVMDP. Operates as the central switching and distribution switchboard for heavy industrial electrical consumers in palm oil mills, rubber, and manufacturing plants.
Switchgear & Controlgear Assembly (PHB)
Official PUIL 2011 statutory term defining complete enclosed assemblies incorporating switches, circuit breakers, fuses, digital metering instruments, and busbars designed to safely distribute and protect electrical power against short circuits and overloads.
Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) Capacitor Bank
Automated multi-step reactive power compensation panel injecting capacitance (kVAR) into inductive mill motor networks. Maintains power factor cos phi consistently above 0.85, eliminating PLN utility kVARh penalty charges and reducing transformer I²R thermal losses.
20 kV / 400V Step-Down Distribution Substation
Step-down transformer converting utility medium voltage 20,000 V to plant utilization 400/230 V 3-phase power. Built with mineral oil-immersed (ONAN) or dry-type cast resin insulation ranging from 630 kVA to 2,500 kVA with hermetically sealed safety devices.
20 kV Medium Voltage Underground Cable Line (SKTM)
20 kV underground electrical distribution network utilizing XLPE insulated, copper-shielded, and galvanized steel-tape armored cables (e.g. N2XSEFGBY). Direct-buried or ducted through concrete trenches with certified heat-shrink terminations verified via VLF testing.
20 kV Medium Voltage Overhead Insulated Line (SKUTM)
Overhead 20 kV distribution line utilizing insulated aluminum conductors (AAAC-S / XLPE) supported by prestressed concrete poles and hot-dip galvanized cross-arms. Offers superior resilience against tree contact and lightning surges in plantation terrains.
Certificate of Operational Worthiness (SLO)
Statutory formal safety certificate issued by an accredited Technical Inspection Body (LIT) under the Directorate General of Electricity (ESDM). Certifies that a 20 kV installation has successfully completed commissioning tests and is legally cleared for permanent energization.
Electrical Installation Identity Number (NIDI)
Mandatory unique digital identity number issued through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Si Ujang Gatrik database. Prerequisite for SLO verification, confirming the installation was engineered by a licensed contractor (SBUJPTL) with ESDM-certified personnel.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE Electrical Safety)
Zero-harm industrial electrical safety compliance engineered to eliminate electric shock hazards, Arc Flash explosions, and fire hazards. Enforces certified 20 kV dielectric PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and formal hazardous live-work permits.
